About the Author

Deborah Jo Larson was born in St. Paul, MN. She began her career as a playwright and puppeteer. Ms. Larson enjoyed a string of sold-out performances in her parent’s garage, only to learn later in life that her audience came mainly for her Mother’s free popcorn. But Ms. Larson continued her creative journey nonetheless and was thrilled to sell her first picture book, One Frozen Lake, to the MN Historical Society Press, a mere 40 years later.

Ms. Larson is a self-employed PR, Marketing and Events consultant. She studies creative writing at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. Her fiction stories have appeared in Stories for Children Magazine. She won a Shabo Award for picture book writing from the Loft Literary Center in 2007.

Ms. Larson lives in Woodbury, MN with her husband, two teenage children and a bossy Miniature Schnauzer. She spends her free time reading, gardening and enjoying the outdoors. She baits her own hook.

Ms. Larson hopes that One Frozen Lake will evoke warm memories for generations of ice-fishers, who know firsthand that there is no better way to bond with someone than to share a tiny ice shack and wait for the fish to bite.
